Brett Miller - Outstanding Athletic Achievement

In the summer of 1976, the tallest Pedi Cab driver in Hawaii must have been quite a sight. Standing 6-foot-7inches and weighing over 200 pounds, Brett Miller was just another happy go lucky 18-year old who had just graduated from Glendale High and was happy for the time being giving rides to tourists and surfing away his time when he wasn’t working.

He had played football for the Nitros but wasn’t sure about his future on the gridiron. Many of his teammates from Glendale had gone on to play football at Glendale College and other schools and Miller was not quite sure about where he stood on the matter. Still searching, here turned home and got a job at a grocery store in La Canada.

Fast forwarding 40 years, Miller was happy and relaxed as he described his journey from Glendale High to Glendale College, the University of Iowa and then playing football for10 years in the National Football League as an offensive lineman for the Atlanta Falcons, New York Jets and San Diego Chargers.

“It might have been considered a strange path to take and still end up playing in the NFL but I took the time to make sure playing football at the next level was what I wanted and that I was willing to work for it,’’ Miller said. “Probably the best choice I made was starting back up at Glendale College and playing for Jim Sartoris and John Cicuto because they were my mentors then and I still consider them people I look up to today.’’

After devoting 10 years to the NFL and a life of organized chaos on the field, Miller is relatively healthy after battling almost 300 pound defensive lineman, blitzing linebackers and quick and strong defensive backs looking to harm the quarterback he was protecting.

He packed on the pounds and muscle after high school and was at one time named the strongest man in the NFL. He did some work in front of the camera as a sports reporter for Channel 5 as well as TV shows and films but is content now working in real estate and spending time with his two daughters and grandson.
