1984-85 Men's Basketball - Outstanding Team
The 1984-85 men’s basketball team was the first team that Brian Beauchemin coached in his 25 years at Glendale that won a conference championship title and advanced to the final four of the state championship basketball tournament. The Vaqueros finished that season 20-12 but reeled off 16 wins in 19 conference games to win the Inland Valley Conference title and then won a Southern California Regional playoff game to advance to the final four in state.
Julie Flynn - Outstanding Athletic Achievement
In the spring of 1979, Julie Flynn earned the right to be called the best women’s junior college shot putter in California with a put of 44-feet-5 inches at the state championships. That season, she also set the school records in the shot put and discus and still holds the record in the shot put today.
Wally Richie - Outstanding Athletic Achievement
Wally Ritchie stands out as one of the best players to ever wear a Vaquero baseball uniform and was named the Inland Valley Conference Co-Most Valuable Player and an all- state selection as a left-handed pitcher in 1985. His success with the Vaqueros that season paved the way for Ritchie to become drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the fourth round of the 1985 Amateur Baseball Draft. He made his Major League debut on May 1, 1987 and played four years in the majors, 1987 and 1988 and 1991 and 1992.
Bill Reinhard - Meritorious Service
From 1949 to 1985, Bill Reinhard represented Glendale College as head coach of the football, swim and water polo and golf teams. He was also the men’s athletic director and physical education division chair until he retired in 1985 and was the consultant for the Glendale Community College Foundation Golf Tournament until 2002. In his last game as the football coach in 1957, Reinhard led Glendale to a 44-0 win over Oceans ide in the Alfalfa Bowl, the first football bowl game that the school ever played in.
Mike Hull - Pillar of Achievement
Mike Hull played football Crescenta Valley High, Glendale College, USC and for theChicago Bears and Washington Redskins in the NFL. He was an all-league running backat CV and at Glendale and played in two Rose Bowls and was on a National Championship team at USC and was also a first-round draft choice for the Chicago Bearsin 1968. In 1973, Hull played in Super Bowl VII for the Washington Redskins and retiredfrom football after the 1974 season.
