Alejandro “Alex” Gomez joined the Vaquero staff in the Winter of 2019. His duties include coaching catchers, assisting in the pitching program, as well as hitting development. In addition to his duties at GCC, Gomez also trains professional and college-level athletes--his areas of expertise include pitch design, usage, and biomechanics. He has completed advanced training programs in baseball analytics, has proficiency in SQL, and R Studio. Gomez has earned Driveline certifications in pitching and hitting instruction.
Alex spent the 2019 spring season as a Minor League & International Operations Intern with the Tampa Bay Rays. In the fall of 2019, he assisted stadium operations at MLB’s prestigious Arizona Fall League for the Mesa Solar Sox. He spent the 2018 season with the Chicago White Sox as a Player Development Intern and was NL bullpen catcher for MLB’s 2016 All Star Game & 2017 World Baseball Classic with Team Venezuela (semifinal round).
Alejandro lettered at John F. Kennedy High School (Granada Hills, CA) where he was selected twice to All-Conference honors before graduating in 2013. Alex began his collegiate career at California Lutheran University but transferred to Glendale Community College after completing his freshman season. In his sophomore season at GCC, Alex received Gold Glove and All-Conference honors before transferring to play NCAA D1 baseball at the University of San Diego. He graduated in May of 2017 with a B.A. in English
