December 3 marked NCAA Early Signing Day, a time when some of the nation's top football talent makes their collegiate commitments at the Division I level. Among those student-athletes was Glendale Community College standout wide receiver Zamondre Merriweather, who officially signed to continue his academic and athletic career at Syracuse University, a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).
Merriweather drew significant interest during the recruiting process, earning scholarship offers from San Diego State, Illinois, Arizona State, and Syracuse. After careful consideration, he chose Syracuse as the next step in his journey.
"When asked why Syracuse, Merriweather said, 'Syracuse felt like home from the moment I started talking with the coaches. They believed in me not just as a player, but as a person, and they were honest about how I fit into their vision for the program. The relationships, trust, and the opportunity to grow on and off the field made it clear that it was the right place for me.'"
Merriweather leaves Glendale Community College after a career and record-setting season. During the 2025 campaign, he totaled 59 receptions for 961 yards and 15 touchdowns, climbing GCC's wide receiver record boards in both receiving yards and touchdowns in a single season.
His outstanding performance earned him multiple honors, including:
- Pacific Conference Offensive Player of the Year
- Glendale College Most Valuable Player
- First Team Unanimous All-Conference Wide Receiver
- All-Region Wide Receiver (CCCAA)
Head Coach Tanner Farwell praised Merriweather's impact both on and off the field.
"Zamondre is a great example of what low ego, high output looks like," Farwell said. "He demonstrates that mindset daily in how he treats his teammates and how he carries himself as a student and competitor."
Reflecting on his time at GCC, Merriweather added, "My time at Glendale Community College helped me grow a lot both on and off the field. It gave me the opportunity to stay focused and continue developing as a student-athlete while being surrounded by people who believed in me."
Glendale Community College Athletics congratulates Zamondre Merriweather and wishes him continued success as he takes the next step in his football career at Syracuse University.
