The Vaquero Men's Golf team teed it up on a beautiful day at GCCs home course Oakmont Country Club — widely regarded as the most premier private country club in the foothills, the VAQS delivered a strong performance in Western State Conference play.
Competing against seven other conference teams, the Vaqueros battled to a team total of 314 from their top four scoring cards and finished tied for second place overall at the conclusion of regulation scoring. After a card-off tiebreaker, Glendale settled into a final fourth-place finish in the team standings.
Kyle Gordon and Justin Huitink led the way for the Vaqueros, each firing a 75 — tied for the third-lowest round among the 48 golfers in the field. Their steady play and consistency on Oakmont's greens anchored Glendale's scoring effort. Andy Zhu added an 81, while Liam Husain posted an 83 to round out the counting scores. Jason Kim (92) and Elijah Blanchard (90) also competed for the Vaqueros and gained valuable conference experience on the conferences most prestigious course.
Head Coach Todd Tyni added, "I'm excited about the new scoring format for the state, the competition will be tight all year ..... each shot really means something... I'm proud of my team and look forward to how they will improve and compete each week."
Glendale continues Western State Conference action Monday, February 15, at Alisal Ranch in Solvang, where the Vaqueros will look to build on another competitive conference showing.
