The Glendale Community College men's golf team delivered a strong performance to qualify for the CCCAA Southern California Regional Championships, set for next week at Olivas Links Golf Course in Ventura.
The Western State Conference qualifier, held Monday at Sundale Country Club in Bakersfield, was a demanding one‑day, 36‑hole competition featuring a competitive field of eight teams. The Vaqueros finished fourth overall with a total score of 590 (294–296), earning their spot at next week's regional championship.
Andy Zhu led GCC, carding a pair of consistent rounds of 72–72 (144) to finish tied for sixth individually and stand as the Vaqueros' low scorer for the tournament. Gavin Loughran added a strong showing, tying for 13th place at 148, highlighted by a first‑round 69, which tied for low individual medalist in the opening round. Justin Huitink matched Loughran with a 148, also finishing tied for 13th.
Additional scoring for GCC came from Liam Husain (155) and Kyle Gordon (156), with Eli Blanchard contributing in the team effort during the two‑round event.
Team results were closely contested, with Santa Barbara City College claiming first place at 566, followed by College of the Canyons (568) and Ventura College (583). GCC's fourth‑place finish secured the program's advancement to regional competition.
"I am very proud of the team and how they have worked hard to peak when it matters most," said the coaching staff. "The team is excited about playing at Regionals and will represent GCC well."
The Vaqueros now turn their focus to Olivas Links, where they will compete against the top programs in Southern California for a chance to advance further in postseason play.
