LA QUINTA, Calif. — Brutal conditions greeted the field Sunday during the opening round of the CCCAA Men's Golf State Championship at SilverRock Country Club, where temperatures climbed to 106 degrees. Even tougher conditions are expected in Monday's final round, with highs forecasted to reach 110.
Glendale College's Andy Zhu, competing as the Vaqueros' lone qualifier, battled through the extreme heat to shoot a four‑over‑par 76 in the first round. Zhu is tied for 23rd place and sits seven strokes behind the individual leader at three under par. He will look to move up the leaderboard in the final round.
The team title race remains tight heading into Monday, with College of the Desert leading the field at even par. Victor Valley College follows at four over par, while The Master's University/Canyons sits close behind at five over par.
With dangerous heat once again expected, endurance and focus will be key as the CCCAA crowns its individual and team champions.
