The Glendale College Vaqueros volleyball team put up a strong fight on the road Wednesday evening, pushing West LA to four sets before falling 3-1 (17-25, 25-16, 25-27, 23-25) in a closely contested matchup.
After a slow start in the opening set, the Vaqueros roared back in the second, dominating with aggressive play at the net and improved serve reception. Abigail Yeoh led the charge offensively, finishing with 7 kills on a .250 hitting percentage, adding 3 service aces and 12 assists, showcasing her versatility and court awareness. She also chipped in a solo block and totaled 11.0 points.
Veteran outside hitter Eva Portnaya contributed heavily on both sides of the ball, notching a team-high 11 kills and 2 solo blocks, finishing with 13.0 total points. Her powerful presence at the net helped keep Glendale competitive in the tight third and fourth sets.
Middle blocker Kiana Canales tallied 6 kills and recorded 22 digs on defense, anchoring the backcourt and giving Glendale second-chance opportunities. Freshman Raelee Lanphear was perfect in her limited offensive chances, going 1-for-1 in attacks, while adding 1 ace and a team-high 24 digs, marking her as one of the team's key defensive standouts.
Journey Blueford contributed with 4 kills, 2 solo blocks, and a block assist, providing stability at the net, while Mika Valiente added 2 kills, 9 assists, and 2 blocks, rounding out a balanced team effort.
